|Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Qin Gang's Comment on the Annual Report of the US "Congressional-Executive Commission on China "|
Q: Recently, the US "Congressional-Executive Commission on China" released its 2006 annual report on China. What comment do you have?
A: The annual report of the so-called US "Congressional-Executive Commission on China" turned a blind eye to China's progress and achievements in human rights and legal system building, distorted facts and continued to make groundless attacks against China on its social and judicial system, ethnic and religious policies, human rights and other fields. We express strong dissatisfaction against and firm opposition to the brutal interference in China's internal affairs.
Over the past 57 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, particularly since the launch of reform and opening-up policy, China has witnessed rapid, sustained and sound economic development and steady advancement of the building of democracy and legal system. People of all ethnicity enjoy unprecedented human rights and fundamental freedom. With the full implementation of the policy of "one country, two systems", "Hong Kong People administering Hong Kong" and high degree of autonomy, Hong Kong's political system and democracy have been developing in a progressive way in accordance with the Basic Law. Hong Kong continues to maintain stability and prosperity. Under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party, people of all ethnicity are making concerted efforts to build a harmonious socialist society along the path of peaceful development. All these facts are witnessed by all.
We advise the US Congress and relevant authorities to focus more on problems in their own country, stop interfering in China's internal affairs and contribute more to relations between China and the United States instead of doing the opposite. We urge the US Government to take China's solemn position seriously and adopt concrete measures to eliminate the adverse impact of the report.
